ICOSS 2019 Summery of Abstracts

THE SUCCESS STORY OF ICOSS 2019

The 6th International Conference on Social Sciences (ICOSS 2019), was held on 19th – 20th September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia under the theme “Empowered Humanity: Making Knowledge, Innovation and Progress Accessible to All”. The conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Department of Social and Development Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia and Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand as the Co-hosting partners while Noida International University, India The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan, University of Sargodha, Pakistan as academic partners, and The Institute of Social Sciences, India as the Strategic Partner for this year’s conference.

ICOSS 2019 covered a range of disciplinary areas such as sociology, international relations economics, technology, political science, development studies and gender studies, to name a few along with the speeches from renowned speakers, best presentations, roundtable discussions, and networking opportunities. Moreover, the conference welcomed 50+ participants from 17 countries around the world.

INAUGURATION CEREMONY

 

The opening remarks of ICOSS 2019 were made by the Conference Chair Professor Steven Ratuva

(Director, Macmillan Brown Center for Pacific Studies, Professor, Department of Anthropology and Sociology, University of Canterbury, New Zealand) together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management).

CONFERENCE HOSTING AND ACADEMIC PARTNERS APPRECIATION

In valuing the significant contribution to the ICOSS 2019 conference both Co-hosting as well as academic partner Universities were recognized during the conference. The appreciation awards were presented to the following Institutions accordingly:

KEYNOTE FORUM

The Keynote forum was one of the significant sessions of the Conference and it was enlightened by the Conference Chair Professor Steven Ratuva (Director, Macmillan Brown Center for Pacific Studies, Professor, Department of Anthropology and Sociology, University of Canterbury, New Zealand) under the theme “Empowering little voices: Research innovation and potential for social transformation”.

Dr. Emma Porio (Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology,Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines) delivered her valuable speech titled “Co-generation of knowledge, Co-creation of Capacities: Approaches to Progress and Innovation in the 4th Industrial Revolution”.

PANEL DISCUSSION

“Community Empowerment through Research and Innovation”

In understanding the importance of Community empowerment a panel discussion was arranged at the ICOSS 2019 Conference. The panel discussion was moderated by Professor Steven Ratuva  (Director, Macmillan Brown Center for Pacific Studies, Professor, Department of Anthropology and Sociology, University of Canterbury, New Zealand) under the theme Community Empowerment through Research and Innovation”. The panelists include Dr. Emma Porio (Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines) and Dr. Asnarulkhadi Abu Samah, Department of Social and Development Studies, University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. The discussion covered a wide range of areas in Community empowerment i.e. involving communities in decision-making, community ownership, advocacy, and action that explicitly aim to achieve social and political change.

WORKSHOP ON SCHOLARLY PUBLICATIONS

Through the publication workshop, it was intended to disseminate knowledge on writing scientific papers and scholarly publications to assist future researchers. The workshop was moderated by Professor Steven Ratuva (Director, Macmillan Brown Center for Pacific Studies, Professor, Department of Anthropology and Sociology, University of Canterbury, New Zealand). The Perspective of the publication workshop was to assist researchers who write full papers with the aim of publishing in a reputable journal or in a reputable proceeding. Through this publication workshop, the facilitator was able to disseminate knowledge on writing scientific papers and scholarly publications for future researchers. All conference participants were delighted and graced by this opportunity.

ICOSS 2019 consisted of over 50 participants from 17 countries around the world, including Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Greece, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Bangladesh, Thailand, Germany, Nepal, Nigeria, UK.  ICOSS 2019 created a platform for academicians, researchers, students, industry experts, policymakers, professionals and enthusiastic attendees to share their diverse experiences, discuss, argue and ultimately to find solutions to the issues related to social sciences.

Opportunities

 

All accepted abstracts for the 6th International Conference on Social Sciences 2019 – (ICOSS 2019) will be published in the conference abstract book with an associated ISBN 978-955-3605-36-8.

All full papers sent for conference proceedings will be subjected to double blind reviewing process and will be published electronically with an ISSN 2357-268x in the proceedings with a DOI Number (DOI prefix: 10.17501).

Accepted papers published in conference proceedings will be submitted to Google Scholar, Scopus and Thomson Reuters for possible indexing.
