Welcome to The 3rd International Conference on Social Sciences 2016

The International Institute of Knowledge Management takes great pleasure in inviting you to the 3rd International Conference on Social Sciences (ICOSS-2016) scheduled to be held on the 19th and 20th of September 2016 in Bali, Indonesia. In today’s context, it is evident that the most complicated species on earth is humans who have the ability to think and act. This significant ability has paved way for decisions taken at own discretions creating numerous problems in the society. The conference on the subject of Social Science is believed to be a vital topic to be discussed creating a platform for measures to be addressed for a better approach to meet issues in the society leading towards global sustainability.

Participants are also welcome to submit a presentation proposal either for a 20-minute oral presentation, a poster presentation or a 60-minute workshop. The presenters who are unable to be present at the conference are encouraged to register under the Virtual Presenter category.

Prof. Michael Redclift

Emeritus Professor of International Environmental Policy,King’s College University of London

Michael Redclift is Emeritus Professor of International Environmental Policy in the Department of Geography, at King’s College, University of London. His research interests include sustainable development, global environmental change, environmental security and the modern food system. Between 1973 and 1997 he was at Imperial College at Wye, ultimately as Professor of Environmental Sociology. In 1987 his ground breaking book Sustainable Development: exploring the contradictions was published by Routledge. . In 2006 he was the first recipient of the ‘Frederick Buttel Award’, from the International Sociological Association (RC 24) for his ‘outstanding contribution to Environmental Sociology’.

Assoc.Prof. Tim Allender

Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney, Australia.

A/Prof. Tim Allender’s principal research over the past 20 years concerns Indian education. His latest monograph with Manchester University Press develops key gender, feminist and knowledge transfer themes concerning India. He has published earlier books, 16 international journal articles and 14 book chapters, illuminating other aspects of education in India. He is the editor of four special issues of international journals and he is on the editorial boards of four leading international journals. A/Professor Allender has held two successfully completed ARC grants. In recognition of his international standing as a scholar of education of India he delivered the keynote address to the world International Standing Committee of History of Education (ISCHE) conference in Turkey (June 2015). Tim has held visiting Professorships in Germany, Canada and at the IIAS in Shimla, India. He is completing two research projects including the writing two new monographs: one on educational epistemologies in India and the other on underprivileged girl education in Kolkata.

Emeritus Prof. Margrit Eichler

Professor Emerita of Social Justice Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Canada.

She has over 200 publications, mostly in the areas of feminist methods, family policy, and environmental sustainability. She is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the European Academy of Sciences and received an honorary doctorate from Brock University. Her books include Families in Canada Today. Recent Changes and Their Policy Consequences (1983 and 1988), Non-Sexist Research Methods: A Practical Guide, 1988, now still in print with Taylor and Francis; Change of Plans. Towards a Non-sexist Sustainable City, (ed.)1995; Family Shifts. Families, Policies and Gender Equality, 1997; (with Mary Anne Burke) The BIAS FREE Framework. A Practical Tool for Identifying and Eliminating Social Biases in Health Research. Global Forum for Health Research, 2006; (with others) More Than It Seems: Household Work and Lifelong Learning, Toronto: Women’s Press, 2010.

Since retiring from the university, she has become a full-time activist, and is President of Our Right to Know (ourrighttoknow.ca), Past President of the Academy for Lifelong Learning Toronto, and Secretary of Science for Peace.

Dilip Dutta

Prof. Dilip Dutta

Associate Professor in Economics, University of Sydney.

After completing the ‘Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management’ diploma (equivalent to PhD) from the IIMC Calcutta, Professor Dilip Dutta did his PhD in Economics from University of California, Berkeley, USA. He then was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Australian National University before joining the University of Sydney. He is currently an Associate Professor in Economics.

Apart from publishing two books in addition to a forthcoming one, he has more than 50 publications including 22 refereed journal papers, 16 refereed book chapters, 7 refereeed conference proceedings, and 7 other published academic research including on-line ones.

His current research interests focus on capability-based sustained human development, socio-economic dualism, trade liberalisation, endogenous growth, and role of information and communication technology (ICT) on economic growth and development in selected developing countries including China and India.

He is the founding editor of an interdisciplinary journal– International Journal of Development Issues published by Emerald Group Publishing Limited, UK.
